Tom Homan, the administration’s border czar, sounded off this week as Democrats dug in and refused to fund Immigration and Customs Enforcement, calling the move nothing short of lawless and reckless. He made plain what many conservatives already know: when you hamstring the people on the line, you invite chaos and cart out the rule of law.
Homan didn’t mince words — he begged Democrats to stop demonizing ICE agents and to change the laws if they have concerns instead of gutting enforcement. That is a commonsense challenge: if lawmakers object to how an agency operates, fix the statute; do not kneecap the agents who keep our borders and communities safe.
Democratic demands during the DHS funding standoff have included intrusive operational restrictions like mandatory body cameras, ID rules, and warrant requirements for agents doing enforcement — add-ons that would handcuff investigators and slow down removal and criminal investigations. This is politics dressed up as oversight, and it prioritizes optics over safety.
Homan also warned that the constant anti-ICE rhetoric puts lives at risk, pleading that the political theater must stop before another agent is harmed. Demonizing law enforcement breeds real-world consequences, and the left’s public witch-hunts against officers have already made dangerous people bolder.
Democrats who now refuse to fund ICE are picking winners and losers on the public safety stage — they would rather cater to open-border interest groups than fund the men and women who enforce our immigration laws. This shortsighted posture is exactly why previous Congresses supported strong enforcement, and why undercutting it only emboldens illegal crossings and cartel activity.
Enough with the lectures about “reform” being the only acceptable path when that word is used as cover to neuter enforcement. Conservatives must stand unapologetically for funding the agencies that protect our citizens and restore order at the border, not for theatrical gestures that endanger officers and communities.
Patriots across this country should demand that their elected officials fund ICE, support law enforcement, and stop trading homeland security for woke headlines. If you believe in law and order, now is the time to make your voice heard and push back against the dangerous negligence of those who refuse to secure the border.
