New York City, the city that never sleeps, is wide awake and fed up with its government’s misplaced priorities. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her band of House Democrats attempted to hold a press conference outside the Roosevelt Hotel, only to be greeted by a furious mob of angry New Yorkers. These citizens, tired of having migrants’ needs placed ahead of their own, were not shy about voicing their frustrations.
It’s no secret that tensions have been rising in the Big Apple lately. The city simply cannot keep up with the influx of migrants pouring in from the U.S.-Mexico border. With nowhere left to house these individuals, New York City has resorted to relocating them to different boroughs, much to the dismay of its residents. Imagine not knowing who your new neighbor will be, or worse, if they have any nefarious intentions!
But instead of addressing the concerns of her constituents, Ocasio-Cortez shamelessly called for even more federal funds to be funneled towards accommodating migrants. Apparently, the $12 billion already spent wasn’t enough. Perhaps she should consider the needs and well-being of hardworking American citizens who have been shouldering the burden for far too long.

The protesters who gathered at the press conference made their message loud and clear: “Close the border” and “Send them back!” These New Yorkers are justifiably fed up with their city’s leadership playing favorites and neglecting its own people. Their voices drowned out the feeble attempts of Ocasio-Cortez and her ilk, and rightfully so.
Even Mayor Eric Adams, no stranger to common sense, has warned that the influx of migrants and the astronomical amount of money being spent on them is slowly but surely pushing New York City towards destruction. It’s refreshing to see a leader who can see the writing on the wall, even if others are turning a blind eye.
It’s about time our elected officials prioritize the interests and safety of American citizens over those who have entered our country unlawfully. New York City deserves better than being turned into a makeshift sanctuary for everyone but its lawful residents. It’s time for a change, and it starts with rejecting the misguided policies of politicians like Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow Democrats.
