She also criticized the idea of one party electing a member from another party as speaker, arguing that it could compromise the institution's integrity and historical norms.
As a conservative Republican news writer, it's evident that Ocasio-Cortez's comments are influenced by her progressive beliefs. However, her attempt to influence House Republicans from New York appears somewhat desperate and aimed at applying political pressure. Her doubts regarding the stance of New Yorkers on such a decision are presumptive and unfounded. Notably, Republicans made significant gains in the state during the 2022 midterm elections, indicating growing support.

It's essential to acknowledge that Jordan has garnered the support of the majority of House Republicans for the position of speaker. While Ocasio-Cortez may disagree with his positions on issues like the election and abortion, it is not within her purview to dictate who should hold the position. Furthermore, her suggestion to back Hakeem Jeffries for speaker based solely on party affiliation overlooks the fact that Republicans now hold the House majority.
Ocasio-Cortez's call to action, urging individuals to contact their GOP representatives and express their opposition to Jordan as speaker, seems to be another effort to rally her progressive base against conservative leaders. Instead of engaging in productive bipartisan discussions and seeking common ground for the benefit of the country, she appears to be resorting to political tactics that may further polarize us. It is apparent that her primary focus is on advancing her own agenda rather than finding areas of agreement and working towards solutions.
