In a surprising turn of events, Democrat New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is facing criticism from her own party after expressing her disdain for a pro-Palestine rally in New York City. This rally took place shortly after a devastating attack by Hamas that has left the entire Middle East, especially Israel, in a state of shock and distress.
The New York City Democratic Socialists of America, which was once AOC’s party, organized the rally in support of Palestinians just one day after the attack. The rally aimed to show solidarity with the Palestinian people and their struggle against decades of occupation and apartheid. AOC addressed the rally, condemning hatred and antisemitism, which she believes should be shut down whenever it is encountered.
While AOC’s comments might seem reasonable on the surface, they have not been well-received by her party. Nadia Tykulsker, the NYC DSA’s chair, shot back at AOC, accusing her of exploiting the situation to divide the left in New York and divert attention from the atrocities and loss of life in the region.
On the other side of the conflict, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin “Bibi” Netanyahu delivered a passionate address to the nation, outlining Israel’s strategic steps in the ongoing conflict with Hamas. Netanyahu declared that Israel did not want this war but was left with no choice but to defend itself against the brutal and savage attacks by Hamas. He further emphasized that just as the forces of civilization united to defeat ISIS, they should support Israel in defeating Hamas.
It is shameful that AOC would undermine Israel’s right to defend itself and align with those who perpetrate violence and hatred. By criticizing the pro-Palestine rally, she is betraying the values of her own party and disregarding the suffering of the Israeli people. This is yet another example of the far-left agenda that AOC promotes, which prioritizes division and appeasement over the security and well-being of our allies.
