AOC Seeks to Impeach Conservative Justices Alito and Thomas Amid Ethical Concerns

Progressive firebrand Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, known for her outspoken nature and left-wing agenda, has set her sights on Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito and Clarence Thomas. The New York Congresswoman filed a motion to kickstart impeachment proceedings against the conservative Justices, accusing them of ethical misconduct and ties to wealthy Republican donors.

Ocasio-Cortez’s move follows a string of high-profile Supreme Court decisions that have left both the left and right with victories and losses. But for progressives like AOC, Justices Alito and Thomas have remained constant targets. Allegations of financial impropriety and conflicts of interest have swirled around the Justices, with AOC leading the charge in calling them out.

While impeachment proceedings against Supreme Court Justices are rare, AOC’s motion is likely to face an uphill battle in the Republican-controlled House. The push for impeachment echoes a similar call by Democratic Senators Sheldon Whitehouse and Ron Wyden, who have raised concerns about Justice Thomas’s conduct and called for a criminal investigation.

It’s worth noting that only one Supreme Court Justice has ever been impeached in history, back in 1805. Justice Samuel Chase faced allegations of judicial misconduct but was ultimately acquitted. The current situation with Justices Alito and Thomas carries echoes of past controversies, as AOC and her allies seek to hold them accountable for their actions.

The political ripples from AOC’s impeachment motion are already being felt, with the Democratic Socialists of America withdrawing their endorsement of her over her stance on antisemitism. As the left grapples with internal divisions, and Joe Biden’s administration faces challenges, the drama surrounding the Supreme Court impeachment motion adds another layer of complexity to an already turbulent political landscape.
