The latest episode of the drama surrounding Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez gets more entertaining by the day, as the self-proclaimed defender of all things progressive took to the airwaves to blast a new bathroom policy in the U.S. Capitol. This policy, brought to light by Republican Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina, clearly stipulates that anyone, including Rep. Tim “Sarah” McBride, must use restrooms corresponding to their biological sex. AOC, feeling the heat from this commonsense measure, threw a tantrum reminiscent of a toddler deprived of dessert.
For those unaware, McBride is a self-identified “transgender” representative who recently swore in. However, instead of aligning with nature’s categorical distinctions, AOC chose to play the role of the offended guardian of women’s rights, claiming this policy threatens to endanger women and girls everywhere. Perhaps in AOC’s world, the mere presence of a biological man in a women’s restroom doesn’t seem to raise any red flags. Maybe she thinks bathroom etiquette should also include a wild west mentality where identifiers come from one’s feelings that day rather than, say, biology.
Rep. @AOC on Rep. Mace's transgender bathroom measure:
"They're doing this so that Nancy Mace can … fundraise off an email. They're not doing this to protect people. They're endangering women, they're endangering girls of all kinds. And everybody should reject it. It's gross." pic.twitter.com/qxenQsQpQs

Citing the new rules as an affront to personal expression, AOC raged against Mace and House Speaker Mike Johnson, suggesting this isn’t about safety. According to AOC, the real issue is about Republican lawmakers attempting to fundraise off of their bathroom policies while simultaneously threatening the very safety of females across the nation. It’s hard to keep track of the logic here; if women deserve their own spaces, then perhaps it’s AOC and her associates who are truly the ones creating danger by advocating for men to intrude on places meant for women.
The irony isn’t lost on anyone, especially when this same representative has been on a quest to label anyone who dares oppose biological males in women’s sports as (gasp!) predatory. Earlier this month, AOC criticized the Green Party for not supporting this radical agenda, suggesting that anyone advocating for women should be shunned and vilified. Perhaps she missed the memo that competing fairly in sports isn’t a “hungry-for-sponsorship” issue; it’s about maintaining a level playing field that respects biological realities.
In a twist that could only be crafted in the halls of progressive reasoning, AOC’s disdain for Mace’s bathroom resolution doesn’t just stop at bathroom policy or participation in sports. Her ability to connect all these dots may as well be magic in a circus act: women are in danger, trans rights are in jeopardy, and the Green Party is predatory—all in a day’s work for the New York representative. One has to wonder what would happen if she focused on real issues such as national security or economic stability instead of obsessing over bathroom intricacies. Maybe then, she could forge a path of unity rather than division, although that concept appears to be as foreign to her as a small government philosophy.
As the antics unfold, it becomes clearer that leadership amongst the left is as confused as it is unwavering in its quest for radical change. While the conservative majority sticks to protecting the basic rights and safety of women everywhere, AOC continues her crusade, seemingly oblivious to the implications her rhetoric carries. It’s a bizarre show, but then again, the progressive circus never fails to provide a spectacle.
