Axelrod Touts Walz as Game Changer for Harris Against Trump

David Axelrod, the former adviser to President Obama, has decided to weigh in on the latest developments in the race for the presidency and, surprisingly, it seems he’s having a great time positioning Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as Kamala Harris’s secret weapon against Donald Trump. According to Axelrod, this new ticket has changed the game in a way that leaves Trump feeling a bit like a deer caught in the headlights after a rusty pickup truck rolls through a cornfield.

Axelrod gleefully stated that in their first campaign appearance together, Harris and Walz appeared to be embodying the “turn-the-page” candidates. Meanwhile, Trump has been cast as the “embattled incumbent.” One wonders if Axelrod has ever checked the definition of “turn-the-page” because the only thing turning in this scenario seems to be the pages in a leftist playbook, where making fun of opponents is apparently the new standard for a serious political campaign.

At the rally, Walz took some creative liberties with humor, throwing shade at Ohio Senator J.D. Vance in a manner that would make even a stand-up comedian envious. His antics included a crude innuendo based on a fake passage from Vance’s memoir. One can’t help but wonder if the Democrats have officially run out of real issues and have resorted to creating fake facts for comedic effect instead. The method might earn a few chuckles in progressive circles, but it can’t help but look a tad desperate to anyone with a critical eye.

Axelrod seemed convinced that the changes in the Democratic ticket are causing Trump to lose his swagger. He mentioned that Trump seemed to be unsteady and even dubbed his current campaign “grinding.” A rapid-fire appearance by Harris and Walz filled with laughter and optimism makes for a stark contrast to what Axelrod describes as Trump’s “grinding” approach. If Trump were to take notes, he might consider hiring a comedy coach – after all, he wouldn’t want to give off the impression that he’s stuck in a damp basement, trying to reach an audience that clearly has different expectations.

Interestingly, Axelrod did concede that the race is still very much in Trump’s hands. He pointed out that while Walz and Harris might be singing a cheery tune for now, Trump is still polling ahead in major battleground states. One has to question whether Axelrod was simply enjoying his moment under the spotlight with Harris and Walz, spinning a narrative that feels more like a fairy tale than a political reality. It’s utterly fascinating to watch Democrats engage in their version of political improv while the numbers continue to show that the race remains neck-and-neck – perhaps a case of “irrational exuberance” indeed.
