President Joe Biden may be finding himself on thin ice with the militant faction of his own party. During a fundraising event in Los Angeles, the President faced protests from pro-Palestinian demonstrators. These activists gathered at a barrier in Holmby Park, as close as they could get to the Hollywood mansion where Biden was rubbing elbows with Democratic and Hollywood elites.

The protesters expressed their strong dislike for Israel and even went so far as to label Biden as “Genocide Joe” for his support of Israel in its conflict with Hamas. The belligerent crowd encountered a large law enforcement presence at the fence guarding the fundraising event, and tensions between the demonstrators and law enforcement escalated into clashes.
It is clear that Biden’s unwavering support for Israel has upset a segment of the political left, particularly the more extreme elements within the Democratic Party. The Minnesota chapter of the Islamist group Council on American-Islamic Relations has openly called on their supporters to withdraw their support for Biden in the upcoming 2024 elections, according to Al-Jazeera. Despite opposition from his own party, Biden has not been shy about publicly backing Israel. The United States even used its veto powers to block a United Nations resolution calling for a cease-fire in the conflict.
Among the esteemed attendees at the fundraiser were Governor Gavin Newsom, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, award-winning director Steven Spielberg, and the legendary musician Lenny Kravitz. It remains to be seen how Biden will navigate the pressure from within his own party and reconcile his support for Israel with the demands of the more vocal and militant elements of the left. As tensions continue to rise, the President may find that he’s not as welcome among his own party as he’d hoped.
