Biden Blames Trump for Debt Surge While Adding Trillions Himself: A Masterclass in Projection

Thursday’s presidential debate was a masterclass in political projection, but that’s nothing new for President Biden. This time, Biden, who presides over annual budget deficits hovering around a staggering $2 trillion, tried to shift the blame onto his predecessor. According to Biden, Donald Trump is the one who added more to the federal debt than anyone else. It’s the classic “look over there” tactic.

President Biden either has a short memory or hopes the American public does. Under his watch, the national debt continues to balloon at an alarming rate. Despite the Democrats’ constant talk of fiscal responsibility, the numbers speak for themselves, and they are not flattering for the current administration.

Comparing Trump’s term to Biden’s is like comparing apples to oranges, especially considering the unprecedented spending during the pandemic. Still, Biden’s selective amnesia conveniently skips over the trillions in green energy boondoggles, dubious “infrastructure” projects, and other progressive pipe dreams that have been rubber-stamped without a second thought.

At the core of Biden’s projection strategy is perhaps desperation. With midterms approaching and his approval ratings floundering, he needs a scapegoat, and what better target than Donald Trump? By distorting history, Biden hopes to shift the blame from his administration’s financial mismanagement to his predecessor.

Biden’s argument doesn’t hold up under scrutiny. The truly eye-watering deficits have occurred on his watch, even as he claims to be the adult in the room. It’s a curious brand of fiscal stewardship that involves pointing fingers while the federal debt soars ever higher.
