Biden Criticizes Trump’s VP Pick, Signals MAGA Politics Persistence

Joe Biden could not resist sharing his dismay over Donald Trump’s savvy pick of Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) as his running mate. Apparently, this move firmly anchors the Republican Party in “Make America Great Again” (MAGA) politics, a scenario that seems to cause deep concern for the current president.

Instead of applauding the selection of a competent and hard-working senator, Biden weakly lamented that Trump’s nod to Vance meant MAGA politics are here to stay. This declaration was made during a lackluster interview with BET News’s Ed Gordon—because where else would Biden rather air his grievances than in a venue hardly being watched by the people who most need to hear it?

On Monday, Trump announced his VP pick, and Ohio Senator J.D. Vance accepted the role with a speech that reminded everyone why nationalism and conservative values resonate so strongly with Americans. Vance, known for his patriotic policies, wasted no time outlining a vision for the future that left Democrats quaking in their boots.

Despite his raspy voice and visibly tired demeanor, Biden could not help but grudgingly admit that Vance is a bright and industrious senator. Yet, he topped off his reluctant praise with the predictable warning that Vance is a “really, really, really conservative MAGA Republican”—as if that were a bad thing.

Meanwhile, Biden rambled about toning down rhetoric and tackling Trump based on “issues,” though it seems Biden’s idea of an issue is anything but substantive. He lambasted Trump’s past remarks while himself offering nothing more than an anemic call for non-violence. Biden conveniently overlooked the irony that some Republican critics believe the Democratic Party’s divisive language has escalated the political tension to such a degree that it contributed to an assassination attempt on Trump.

While Biden preached about toning down political discourse, he bizarrely hinted he might not run for reelection—citing a potential medical scare as the only reason he’d step aside. It’s a curious condition, considering some folks already wonder if he’s playing out his presidency like a daytime soap opera cliffhanger.

In short, Biden’s reaction to Trump choosing Vance is as theatrical as it is predictable. What truly has Democrats in disarray is the realization that MAGA politics are not just surviving—they’re thriving. As monumental wins for the far-right sweep across Europe, Biden’s repeated admonitions won’t do much to stymie the populist wave Trump aims to ride back to the White House. Safe to say, the Trump-Vance ticket has left more than few liberals losing sleep—again.
