Biden Era Sees Record Surge in Border Gotaways

The number of illegal immigrants escaping from Border Patrol agents and making their way into the United States, known as “gotaways,” has drastically increased during President Biden’s time in office, according to new data obtained by a conservative news outlet.

In the past three years, over 1.6 million gotaways have been documented, surpassing the numbers from both the Trump and Obama administrations combined. These individuals manage to evade capture and disappear into the country instead of surrendering to authorities like most migrants do.

The figures reveal a concerning trend, with 387,398 gotaways in fiscal year 2021, surging to 606,131 in 2022, and climbing even higher to 670,674 in 2023. By comparison, the highest number of known gotaways during the Trump administration was 151,466 in 2019.

This sharp increase in gotaways highlights the ongoing immigration crisis facing the nation, with approximately six million migrants encountered at the southern border since Biden took office. The situation has raised worries among experts, as these individuals actively avoid law enforcement and may include criminals, gang members, or even human traffickers.

Former ICE director Tom Homan raised valid concerns about the potential dangers posed by these escaped individuals, questioning how many may be carrying dangerous substances like fentanyl or engaging in criminal activities.

The absence of immediate response from CBP on the matter further underscores the lack of transparency and accountability within the current administration’s approach to immigration enforcement.
