President Joe Biden received another blow to his already struggling presidency as a new CNN poll reveals alarming statistics. The left-leaning outlet conducted the poll, which showed that Biden’s job ratings are overwhelmingly negative, and there are growing concerns about his age and abilities among Democratic-aligned voters. Conducted by SSRS from August 25th to August 31st, the poll surveyed 1,503 “nationally representative” U.S. adults, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points.
The results are disheartening for the Biden administration. When asked about his job performance, only 39% of participants approved, while a startling 61% disapproved. This marks Biden’s lowest approval rating since June 2022 when it plummeted to 38%. It’s troubling to see how quickly Biden’s approval has declined, signaling a lack of faith in his leadership since December 2022. Additionally, the poll showed that only 35% of participants had a favorable opinion of Biden, while 58% had an unfavorable opinion and 7% remained undecided.
The data further unravels Biden’s standing when examining confidence in his abilities. Only 28% of participants believed that Biden inspires confidence, and a mere 26% believe he possesses the stamina and sharpness to effectively serve as president. Furthermore, only 33% of respondents indicated they were proud to have Biden as their president. These figures are not only alarming, they highlight a clear downward trend in Biden’s public perception. Even more concerning is the fact that these negative perceptions are driven predominantly by Democrats and independents, signaling a lack of support within his own party.
The poll also shed light on the economic concerns plaguing the nation. A staggering 58% of participants believed that Biden had worsened the economic condition of the country, and 70% felt that things are going “pretty [or] very badly” in the nation. These figures place Biden in a precarious position as he hopes to secure the 2024 Democratic presidential nomination.
Despite these abysmal ratings, the poll surprisingly indicates that Biden is on par with former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical 2024 general election matchup. This realization raises questions about the validity and accuracy of the poll. Nevertheless, the data from the CNN poll paints a grim picture for the Biden administration and serves as a wake-up call for the president and his team. It is essential for them to address the concerns of the American people and regain their trust and confidence if they hope to salvage this presidency.
