The Afghanistan withdrawal debacle under the Biden administration has resulted in tragedy and anarchy. The fragile and hurried withdrawal left behind billions of dollars of military equipment as the Taliban swiftly seized control. However, according to Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the administration had a warning that they ignored. Issa was the first person to read a State Department "dissent cable" that accurately predicted the calamitous results of the withdrawal. The cable was signed by twenty-three staff members and diplomats, yet President Biden and his administration downplayed the peril leading up to the fiasco.
Rep. Issa: State Dept. Dissent Cable Shows Biden Was Warned About Afghanistan Pullout Disaster, 'Allowed It to Happen' Anyway https://t.co/psVfqVjKH1

Issa asserts that the administration permitted the atrocity to occur, and the dissenting cable foresaw every possible outcome, including the rapid collapse of the Afghan army. Clearly, the administration received the warning but did nothing in response. Their personnel on the ground observed this, reported it, and issued a warning, only to be disregarded. Rep. Issa and his colleagues believe that this debunks the administration's lies about Afghanistan, but the administration continues to scapegoat former President Donald Trump and the Afghan military for the debacle.
Biden failed thirteen service members, the people of Afghanistan, and the United States in August of 2021. Now it is evident that he was warned, but he chose to disregard the warning because Joe Biden is indifferent to the human costs of his irresponsible policies. Even Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin stated before a House subcommittee that he has no regrets about the disaster. The administration should accept culpability for their failure in preventing the tragedy.
