President Joe Biden has apparently accepted the reality that former President Donald Trump will be his main opponent in the 2024 general election. The New York Times reveals that Biden and his team are no longer considering Florida Governor Ron DeSantis as a potential challenger. Initially, the Democratic National Committee commissioned polls to gauge how both Trump and DeSantis would fare against Biden in battleground states, but now the focus has shifted solely to Trump.

It’s important to note that both Biden and Trump are the clear frontrunners in their respective parties, as confirmed by the numerous polls. Real Clear Politics data shows that Trump is ahead of the Republican field with an average lead of 44.9 percentage points. Biden, on the other hand, leads the Democratic field by 51.1 percentage points. Trump’s lead has only grown stronger, despite the constant attacks and indictments thrown at him by Biden and the Democrats.
All signs are pointing to a rematch between Biden and Trump in 2024. Current polling suggests a close race, with Trump pulling ahead recently. Biden seems to be aware of this and is now focusing his attention solely on Trump. In recent speeches, Biden has labeled Trump as a threat to American democracy and has acknowledged that he expects to be running against “the same fella.” He even plans to join striking autoworkers on the picket line in Michigan, strategically aligning himself against Trump, who is visiting the state the following day.
The Democrats are hoping that this strategy of targeting Trump will help Biden combat the criticism he has faced regarding a potential second term. Whether or not this approach proves successful remains to be seen. Nonetheless, it’s clear that the 2024 election will once again showcase the battle between Biden and Trump, and the contrast between their competing visions for America’s future.
