In the face of calls for a ceasefire and even open support for Hamas from some on the Left, Biden steadfastly backed Israel. His dedication to this stance is set to be underlined in a prime-time speech scheduled for Thursday night.
During his visit, President Biden expressed his intention to request an exceptional support package from Congress to bolster Israel's defense capabilities. He provided reassurance to the Israeli populace, emphasizing that the United States stands firmly by their side. Regrettably, Biden's trip was curtailed due to erroneous reports of an Israeli rocket striking a Gaza hospital, leading to the postponement of meetings with regional leaders.
While conservatives lauded Biden's support for Israel, some members of his own party, notably the progressive "Squad," criticized him for not immediately calling for a ceasefire. However, Benjamin Radd, a global studies lecturer at UCLA, contends that Biden's approach is advantageous. Despite the inability to engage with Arab leaders in person, Biden managed to secure humanitarian aid for Gaza through a telephone conversation with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.

They took issue with his announcement of a $100 million aid package for Gaza and the West Bank, labeling it as "Biden's $100 million gift to Hamas." The Republican National Committee also criticized the brevity of Biden's visit, dubbing it a "Biden drive-by in Israel."
