Senator Richard Blumenthal, a Democrat from Connecticut, believes that President Joe Biden’s administration will eventually provide Ukraine with ATACMS and F-16 fighter aircraft. Blumenthal has been a strong advocate for supplying Ukraine with these weapons throughout the year. He made these comments after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the Capitol. The Biden administration recently agreed to join the F-16 coalition, allowing Ukraine to receive fourth-generation jets from the Netherlands and Denmark, with the U.S. Department of Defense offering pilot training.
However, there are concerns among U.S. officials that providing air support to Ukraine could escalate tensions with Russia. Some military leaders also question the feasibility of training Ukrainian pilots to operate complex jets like the F-16. Despite these concerns, Blumenthal remains optimistic that the administration will eventually come around to providing the requested weapons.

House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, a Republican from Texas, also expressed support for increased military assistance to Ukraine. He highlighted Ukraine’s need for air cover and longer-range artillery to counter Iranian drones in Crimea. McCaul emphasized that Ukraine’s troops currently lack air cover and face dangerous conditions on the ground. He believes it is crucial for the administration to provide Ukraine with the necessary support and is even considering writing it into appropriations if needed.
