In a recent turn of events, the $320 million Gaza pier that was constructed by the United States to help deliver aid to Gaza civilians has faced significant damage due to what officials are calling “heavy seas.” The pier, which only opened on May 17, was forced to shut down for a few days initially because security measures were not put in place to protect the aid trucks arriving at the location. Shockingly, over 70% of the aid was stolen before even reaching the warehouse.
The damaged pier will now be towed to the Israeli port of Ashdod for reconstruction before being brought back to its original location. This situation serves as a stark representation of the current Biden presidency – poorly planned, executed, and managed. It highlights the incompetence and lack of foresight in government decision-making.

The significant damage to the pier occurred when part of the causeway disconnected, requiring repairs before the pier can be operational again. This incident follows a series of mishaps, including two U.S. Army vessels beaching in Israel and two other ships breaking free from their moorings. The construction of the pier was carried out despite the military’s awareness of the operational limitations it would face in Gaza.
The Joint Logistics Over-the-Shore (JLOTS) capability utilized for the pier operation is only viable under specific sea conditions, which were not adequately considered. The delay in deploying the pier due to unfavorable sea conditions and the subsequent damage caused by heavy seas raise serious questions about the decision-making process behind this project.
It is crucial to hold the Biden administration accountable for this costly and poorly executed endeavor. The lack of proper planning and risk assessment has led to significant financial and operational setbacks, ultimately failing to deliver the intended aid efficiently to those in need. This incident serves as a cautionary tale about the consequences of hasty and ill-conceived decisions in government operations.
