In a press briefing on Monday, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre could not hide her frustration when bombarded with tough questions about President Biden’s age and his plummeting job approval ratings. It seems like the cat is out of the bag, even among Democrats, as polls suggest a significant number of Americans believe that Biden is too old to be Commander-in-Chief.
Jean-Pierre’s response was typical of the Biden administration’s tendency to deflect rather than address concerns head-on. She acknowledged the accuracy of the polls but quickly moved to emphasize that they won’t change the minds of the American people. Well, if the American people are questioning Biden’s mental and physical abilities, maybe that’s something the White House should take seriously instead of just brushing it off.

But the press secretary didn’t stop there. When confronted with the critiques from former Obama advisor David Axelrod, she once again dodged the issue, claiming it’s not her job to tell people what to think. Sorry, Jean-Pierre, but isn’t it your job to defend the President and address concerns raised by respected members of your own party? It seems like the Biden administration would rather bury their heads in the sand than confront the glaring problem at hand.
Axelrod’s remarks, posted on Twitter, hit the nail on the head. He questioned whether it’s wise for Biden to continue running and whether it’s in the best interest of both Biden himself and the country. It’s refreshing to see a former Obama advisor speaking the truth and not blindly toeing the party line. Maybe it’s time for more Democrats to start questioning the leadership of an aging President who seems to be struggling to keep up with the demands of his office.
As the 2024 election cycle approaches, the White House’s strategy seems to be one of non-confrontation. But how long can they ride this wave of denial and deflection? The American people deserve transparency and honest dialogue, something that seems to be sorely lacking in this administration. While the Democrats may be hoping that time will solve their Biden problem, the clock is ticking, and the country is growing more impatient by the day.
In the meantime, it’s up to the American people to stay informed, ask the tough questions, and demand accountability from their leaders. It’s clear that Biden’s age and declining job approval ratings are legitimate concerns, and it’s time for the Democratic Party to face these issues head-on. The future of our country depends on it.
