The Biden administration can add another item to its growing list of failures: the death of an 8-year-old Panamanian girl named Anadith Danay Reyes Álvarez. Thanks to the administration’s misguided immigration policies, Border Patrol facilities are overcrowded to the point where proper care cannot be given to migrants in need.
How Biden's Border Crisis Contributed to Another In-Custody Death https://t.co/dDdo6eLeeK

Anadith died from sickness after being held at a processing site for far longer than the standard 72 hours. This tragedy is the result of the administration’s reckless handling of the border crisis, which has led to a surge in family units and unaccompanied minors crossing the border and flooding facilities. Instead of providing safe and efficient asylum processing, the administration has created a chaotic situation that puts the lives of migrants at risk.
According to The New York Times, Anadith and her family crossed into Brownsville, Texas on May 9. Anadith suffered from a heart condition and sickle cell anemia, which was made clear to medical personnel when they were taken to the Border Patrol facility in Donna, Texas. Despite being seen multiple times by medical professionals at the facility in Harlingen, Texas, Anadith was not given the adequate care she needed. Neither was there any consultation with an pediatrician that could have helped diagnose and treat her.
The Border Patrol claims they have procedures in place for releasing “medically fragile” individuals sooner than others. However, this system has clearly failed in Anadith’s case. Officials even neglected requests from her mother to call for an ambulance or take her to the hospital. It was only after her mother carried her to the health unit a fifth time as she appeared to be having a seizure and soon became unresponsive did officials finally call for emergency assistance.
This heartbreaking loss of life is yet another example of the chaos and tragedy that result from the Biden administration’s misguided immigration policies. By incentivizing illegal immigration, they have overwhelmed the system and allowed for corners to be cut to avoid negative headlines. This cannot continue. The American people deserve a secure and stable border.
