The White House needs more than a new approach; it needs a reality check. The Yemen-based Houthis continue their assault on global shipping, emboldened by their cozy relationship with Iran. Apparently, the current administration thinks that more appeasement is the solution to this crisis. Spoiler alert: it isn’t.
The Biden administration’s response to the Houthis resembles a game of whack-a-mole with a broken mallet. Instead of addressing the root of the problem, they keep tip-toeing around it, hoping a few more sanctions or strongly-worded letters will do the trick. Unfortunately, that’s not how the real world works. The Houthis laugh every time they receive another empty threat from D.C., knowing full well that their Iranian backers have their backs.
Biden’s incremental defense has failed —time to confront the Houthis head-on https://t.co/djF7wM0URR via @nypost

Let’s be real: the Houthis have zero incentive to stop their antics as long as Iran continues to finance their operations. And why would Iran stop when they can watch the United States stumble around like an emperor with no clothes? But heaven forbid someone at the White House call out Iran directly. That would require some backbone.
The need of the hour isn’t more diplomatic hand-wringing. It’s time to take decisive action. Deep down, everyone knows that the key to solving the Houthi problem lies in dealing a significant blow to their Iranian sponsors. But mentioning that might offend the delicate sensibilities of the D.C. elite who’ve decided it’s better to lecture Americans on pronoun etiquette than to protect global shipping lanes.
Until the White House wakes up and confronts the Iranian puppet masters, the Houthis will keep playing pirate in the Yemeni waters. So, here’s a news flash for the current administration: the problem won’t magically disappear with wishful thinking and half-hearted measures. It’s high time to address the Iranian elephant in the room.
