The Department of Justice’s security honcho, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, sounded the alarm on the increasing threats against elected and judicial figures, as well as law enforcement personnel. Monaco appeared on ABC’s “This Week” to ring the warning bells about the unprecedented rise in menaces to public officials, from FBI agents to judges to election officials. She emphasized that the threats are no joke, citing instances of death threats against FBI agents, a Supreme Court justice, and even three presidential candidates. Monaco also reassured the public that the Justice Department is not taking these threats lightly, with the FBI having launched over 100 investigations in response to urgent reports from US attorneys across the nation.
But the warnings don’t just end there. FBI Director Christopher Wray, in his recent testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, highlighted the menacing danger signals of potential terror attacks lurking around. Monaco echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the unique threat environment posed by individuals or small groups radicalized online and driven by diverse ideologies.

While law enforcement is grappling with grappling these rising threats, some Republicans in Congress aren’t holding back on their criticism of the FBI and DOJ. They’ve accused these agencies of political bias in their investigations, especially in the cases involving former President Donald Trump and current first son Hunter Biden. However, Monaco fired back at these accusations, defending the dedicated men and women within the Justice Department who, according to her, do their jobs diligently regardless of who is in the White House or in Congress.
Moreover, Monaco pushed back on claims that President Biden has used his influence to sway investigations into his son’s activities or into former President Trump. She vehemently denied these allegations, emphasizing that they are baseless and do a disservice to the hardworking individuals at the Justice Department. Monaco’s steadfast defense of the Justice Department comes amid past attacks from former President Trump, who derogatorily referred to her and other DOJ officials as a “team of losers and misfits” on the Truth Social platform.
In sum, Monaco’s message is clear: there’s a storm brewing, and the government needs to heed the warning signs and take the protection of its officials seriously. The threat landscape, as she and FBI Director Wray outlined, is undeniably challenging, and the Justice Department is working tirelessly to ensure the safety of the nation’s leaders and law enforcement personnel.
