President Joe Biden took to social media to proudly announce his use of executive actions to implement gun control measures, bypassing the need for approval from Congress. The commander-in-chief posted a tweet boasting about signing more executive actions on gun violence than any other president in history. He went on to tout the significance of the law he put in place to address gun violence, claiming it to be the most substantial in nearly three decades.

Biden’s reliance on executive action to enforce gun control started shortly after he took office. As reported by Breitbart News, in April 2021, Biden introduced executive gun controls in response to what he labeled as an “epidemic” of gun crime in the nation. These actions included restrictions on “ghost guns,” a push for red flag laws, reclassification of AR-15 pistols, and directing the Department of Justice to conduct research into gun trafficking.
With Congress’ resistance to passing new gun control legislation, Biden continued utilizing executive actions and was not shy about flaunting his use of this method. On multiple occasions, the president proudly highlighted the number of times he had resorted to executive action to enforce gun control measures that Congress did not approve.
For example, in August 2023, Biden showcased his executive actions, emphasizing the frequency with which he resorted to them to tackle gun violence. He pointed to a specific executive order he signed to intensify efforts to hold the gun industry accountable and prevent firearms from ending up in the wrong hands.
This unapologetic approach to implementing gun control has sparked controversy and criticism.
