Biden’s Vanishing Act: Will Anyone Notice When He Leaves the White House?

January 20 marks the end of what could be considered the most extraordinary chapter in American presidential history—at least for those who believe that the occupant of the Oval Office has actually been present and engaged in the job. For four long years, Joe Biden has managed to play a game of political hide-and-seek that would make even the best magicians jealous. The man has been there, and then again, he hasn’t—depending on who you ask and when you ask them.

While some on the left might be celebrating what they view as his “leadership,” many thoughtful conservatives are left scratching their heads. The last four years have been a bizarre blend of executive decisions seemingly made from the comfort of a basement office and cryptic speeches that often feel more like intermissions in a bad play than actual presidential addresses. It raises questions about who really is at the helm. Could he be the physical president and yet somehow absent from the political reality? It seems almost as if the position of president has turned into a mere figurehead role, maintained by an unseen hand.

Critics argue that Biden’s most significant achievement has been perfecting the art of the disappearing act. In a country desperately craving leadership, the idea of a president who seems to glide in and out of reality is alarming, to say the least. How can Americans trust their country to someone who appears to be more of a spectator than a participant? The Biden administration’s policies, or lack thereof, have left many pondering what exactly the goals are. Are they building back better or just building back to where they can safely disappear without a trace?

The economy isn’t shy about making its opinions known, either. Inflation, gas prices, and grocery bills seem to have taken on a life of their own while Biden took his extended breaks. Many people suspect he’s been locked in his basement again for an unaccounted amount of time, only to emerge when it’s time for a photo op or to sign off on another universally reviled piece of legislation. More often than not, Biden appears to be stumbling through policy decisions as if he were performing a complicated dance routine after being instructed only via a text message.

If one were to judge based solely on the official White House communications, one might think that Biden was actively running the show. But looking at the reality on the ground, fewer and fewer American families think he’s the one pulling the strings. As the clock ticks down to January 20, many are left wondering: will anyone even notice he’s gone? It seems the real question is whether anyone, including Biden himself, can tell the difference between his politics and common sense. Spoiler alert: don’t hold your breath.
