Conservative biology professor Dr. Johnson Varkey was fired from his job at St. Philip's College in San Antonio after he discussed the link between sex and Y chromosomes in a lecture.
Throughout his teaching career, Varkey has covered this topic. It sparked controversy, with students walking out in protest and accusations of religious preaching.
The absurd claims made against Dr. Varkey are further exacerbated by the fact that he never discussed his personal views on sexuality or gender in class. He was a devout Christian who taught at a local church. In today's climate, science and facts are being used to justify leftist ideology and political correctness instead of being taught in a balanced manner.
The First Liberty Institute, which is a religious liberty legal organization, is representing Varkey and is asking for his reinstatement. The group claims that his statements were based on his religious beliefs and that they should be protected under the First Amendment.
It's clear that St. Philip's violated Dr. Varkey's rights by not allowing him to freely exercise his religion and speech. The institution has until July 5, 2023 to reinstate him or face legal action.
This incident is another example of how the left is intolerant of people's different opinions. They are willing to go against the Constitution in order to implement political correctness. This is a dark day for intellectual freedom.
