Human nature hasn’t shifted much since Shakespeare penned those famous words for Hamlet’s mother. “The lady doth protest too much, methinks” serves as a timeless reminder: The louder the denial, the more fishy it all seems. Shakespeare’s insight is alive and well today, especially when considering CNN’s recent histrionics following criticism aimed at Kasie Hunt and Jake Tapper.
The absurdity began when Karoline Leavitt, spokesperson for Trump’s 2024 campaign, guested on “CNN This Morning.” Pointing out Tapper’s long-standing animosity towards Trump, Leavitt ruffled feathers. Hunt, clearly triggered, abruptly ended the segment and cut the mic. If that isn’t a preview of how CNN plans to handle Trump in the upcoming Atlanta debate, then pigs really do fly.

Let’s not kid ourselves—Jake Tapper’s track record screams Trump Derangement Syndrome. Whether he’s accusing Trump of “insurrection” or melting down over a favorable audience reaction during a CNN town hall, Tapper embodies bias. His unhinged interruptions, like calling out Trump’s so-called “anti-immigrant rhetoric,” only serve to underscore his inability to contain his disdain.
Instead of owning up to their overt partiality, CNN launched a defensive blitzkrieg. Hunt took to social media to chastise Leavitt without addressing Tapper’s documented bias. CNN’s official statement further gaslit viewers, painting Tapper and Dana Bash as the epitome of journalistic integrity. Now, anyone who watches television knows that was an Oscar-worthy performance in the art of self-delusion.
So what does CNN’s Shakespearean protest translate to in plain English? “Our moderators have degrees in gaslighting and bias, making them perfectly equipped to sabotage Trump.” In the end, the network’s desperate attempt to wave off legitimate concerns reveals more about their agenda than any clipped mic or trigger-happy anchor could ever conceal.
In other words, to paraphrase the Bard, CNN doth protest too much
