CNN’s Fact-Checking of DNC Reveals Comedy Instead of Serious Journalism

The relationship between CNN and the truth has long been a source of amusement for many conservative Americans. The network’s recent analysis of the Democratic National Convention hilariously demonstrates this in spades, leaving viewers to wonder if they were watching a political event or a stand-up comedy routine. The headline “Fact-checking Night 3 of the Democratic National Convention” almost feels like a setup for a punchline, as the article promptly reveals a reality that few might expect.

At the heart of CNN’s coverage was the assertion that during the convention, speakers maintained a high standard of factual accuracy. This claim, reminiscent of a farce, fell apart under scrutiny. The language employed—terms like “thematic rhetoric” and “uncheckable predictions”—speaks volumes about the quality of the purported facts being presented. To put it plainly, CNN appears to have confused fantasy with factual discourse. Viewers were treated to proclamations from figures like Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel claiming that any intercession by Republicans into personal matters like marriage was tantamount to a physical altercation. Surely, no one in the GOP is interested in her wedding band, cold hands or not.

The absurdity didn’t stop there. While Nessel seemed convinced of an existential threat to her nuptials from the right, former Acting Director of National Intelligence Ric Grenell, who happens to be a gay man, made it abundantly clear that such fears were misplaced. He pointed out that many in the LGBTQ community are being used as political pawns by a radical left, further raising the question of where the actual threats lie. The notion that Donald Trump’s agenda poses any threat to gay marriage is not just unsubstantiated; it is downright laughable to anyone paying attention.

CNN’s coverage took an unexpected turn when the network delivered a rare glimmer of truth in the form of fact-checking. The outlet managed to debunk claims made by Colorado’s Gov. Jared Polis regarding Project 2025, which he distorted to fit a narrative suggesting that it labeled families in a rigid and exclusionary manner. CNN clarified that although the Project 2025 document champions the traditional nuclear family, it adamantly does not claim it to be the only valid family structure. This bonafide truth-telling, however, was overshadowed by the overall mishmash of inaccuracies presented at the convention.

Additional gems of misinformation flowed freely during the event. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz repeated the tired trope that Trump and his running mate would gut Social Security and Medicare, despite Trump’s promises to protect these programs. Such statements continue to reflect a complete disconnection from reality, as factual debate is replaced by alarmist rhetoric aimed at manipulating unsuspecting voters. Meanwhile, reactions from figures like House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries also reaffirmed the likelihood that Democrats would rather cater to fear and inaccuracies than engage in a substantive discussion on policy.

Through it all, the glaring inconsistencies and fabrications observed during the Democratic National Convention present a clear picture: the left is more interested in stirring emotions than engaging in honest discourse. As for CNN, their attempts at fact-checking were a half-hearted endeavor lacking the rigor necessary for serious journalism. Perhaps it would be best if they left fact-checking to organizations that aren’t marred by bias, and instead focused on delivering news that respects the intelligence of their audience.
