Comer Grills Secret Service as Trump Survives Rally Shooting, Dems Push to Cut Security

Hold onto your MAGA hats—the liberal hysteria has hit a new low. This weekend, the House’s top investigator laid the smackdown, demanding answers from the Secret Service after former President Donald Trump was shot during a campaign rally on Saturday. The illustrious Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, who chairs the House Oversight and Accountability Committee, isn’t messing around; he’s already been on the horn with the Secret Service and wants Director Kimberly Cheatle to spill the beans in a hearing.

Of course, Trump’s circle is buzzing with questions about why his opponents seem committed to putting a target on his back. The latest harebrained scheme from the Democratic camp aims to snatch away Secret Service protection from the 45th president. For context, Trump shared on social media that a bullet grazed his right ear during the rally, leaving him with a bloodied ear and face. Thanks to some efficient Secret Service work, he was whisked off stage pronto.

According to the agency, the shooter wasn’t even inside the rally but managed to fire from an “elevated position.” With sniper-like precision, Secret Service agents neutralized the threat, who is now pushing up daisies. Unfortunately, not everyone was so lucky—another attendee was killed, and two others were critically wounded.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who apparently had nothing better to do, briefed President Biden on the shooting along with Ms. Cheatle. The official word is that both Biden and Trump’s campaigns are under tight security watch, though anyone watching Biden’s greatest hits might wonder whether those briefings are sinking in.

Speaking of safeguarding measures, Trump has enjoyed Secret Service protection since he first ran for president in 2015 and has kept it through thick and thin, whether lounging in the White House or tearing up the campaign trail. But that’s not enough for America First Legal, which has now filed an open-records request to dig into whether Trump’s requests for enhanced protection were ignored by Homeland Security.

Meanwhile, Democratic lawmakers continue their never-ending vendetta against Trump. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson of Mississippi was among those gleefully promoting a bill to strip Secret Service protection from any protectee convicted of a felony. Trump’s ally, Alex Pfeiffer, didn’t mince words, calling out the Democrats for their attempt to disarm Trump’s security while Biden was busy throwing around the word “dictator” and Pelosi was raving about stopping Trump at all costs.

It’s important to note that Thompson’s bill sprung up last April when key Democrats sought to yank Trump’s Secret Service protection upon any felony conviction. The Mississippi lawmaker argued it’s about clarifying who guards Trump if he ends up behind bars. Someone might want to remind Thompson of the minor detail that Trump is very much a free man. The bill remains in limbo, much to the delight of the GOP-controlled House.
