During a recent confirmation hearing for Pam Bondi as attorney general, Texas Senator Ted Cruz took the opportunity to vent his frustrations over the Biden administration’s dismal immigration policies. Cruz indicated that the current chaos at the border was so bad that it actually made him nostalgic for the Obama presidency—a sentiment that might sound shocking but points to just how far the Biden administration has strayed from any semblance of law and order.
Cruz was unapologetic as he described the alarming spike in illegal immigration under Biden, highlighting the administration’s blatant disregard for federal immigration laws. He pointed out that Texas has been faced with an overwhelming influx of illegal aliens—approximately 12 million—while dismissing Biden’s approach as unprecedented in American history. Rather than upholding the rule of law, the current administration appears more interested in facilitating what Cruz called a “border invasion,” all while releasing apprehended individuals instead of deporting them as mandated by federal law.
The senator emphasized that under Biden, it is not just a matter of inept management but rather a total failure to respect the Constitution. Cruz bluntly stated that the current environment is not equipped to handle a president who consistently places himself above the law. His sardonic comments about Biden evoking fond memories of Obama, who at least followed immigration laws (even if imperfectly), were laced with a mixture of humor and exasperation.
Cruz’s critique delved deeper into the consequences of Biden’s immigration policies, stressing the impact on American citizens. He pointed to numerous cases of violent crime that can be traced back to inadequate border security. With over 300,000 unaccompanied minors lost under the current administration’s care, Cruz expressed his disbelief that not a single Democrat on the committee had raised concerns about these vulnerable children, demonstrating a glaring lack of accountability and responsibility.

The numbers tell a dire story as well. Under Biden, the Department of Homeland Security reported over 9.5 million encounters with Border Patrol, along with close to 2 million “gotaways”—those who successfully evaded capture and slipped into the U.S. This chaotic situation stands in stark contrast to the tightening measures put forth during the Trump administration, which Biden quickly abandoned upon taking office. The current status quo leaves border towns and cities struggling, compounded by mass illegal immigration and a stark absence of effective policy.
The urgency for a change in immigration policy is more apparent than ever, as leaders on the conservative front continue to advocate for strict measures to regain control of the border. With Trump promising a return to tough enforcement and swift deportations, the battle over immigration will undoubtedly remain a focal point in the ongoing political discourse.
