The year 2023 in Washington, D.C. was a crime-ridden nightmare, and the chaos only intensified as the year came to a close. A staggering 26% surge in total crime sent shockwaves through the nation’s capital, affecting residents and federal lawmakers alike.
As the DC govt wants to make car theft a minor crime, its occurrence explodes.

With violent crime soaring 39% and property crime spiking 24%, it’s no wonder that people in D.C. are feeling unsafe. The most jaw-dropping increase came from motor vehicle thefts, which skyrocketed a whopping 82%. Yes, you read that right, 82%!
Robberies spiked 67% and homicide rose 35%. What’s even more infuriating is that this crime spree comes after Congress spent the year criticizing the district’s handling of crime.
Carjackings have become all the rage, with nearly 1,000 carjackings in 2023, and a mind-boggling 77% of them involving guns. Who needs car keys when you’ve got a Glock, right? And to add insult to injury, nearly two-thirds of the arrests made were of young’uns.
And let’s not forget about the attacks on federal lawmakers and their teams. From carjackings to physical assault and even stabbings, it’s clear that no one is safe in D.C. The criminals are running amok, and it’s high time someone puts a stop to it. 2024 has already kicked off with a homicide and a slew of other crimes.
