It seems that President Joe Biden’s open border policies are causing frustration not just among Republicans, but now even within his own party. Surprisingly, a Democratic mayor from Eagle Pass, Texas, a town directly affected by the influx of illegal migrants, has criticized Biden for his failure to secure the border. Mayor Rolando Salinas expressed his disappointment, claiming that their town has been completely abandoned by the federal government.

In an interview with CNN, Salinas did not mince words when he squarely placed the blame on Biden for the unprecedented surge of illegal migrants flooding their town. Over a mere five days, a staggering 5,000 illegal aliens crossed the border from Mexico into Eagle Pass. Mayor Salinas holds Biden completely responsible for this crisis, and honestly, who can blame him? It takes a lot of courage for a Democrat to admit that their own party’s leader is to blame for such a major issue.
What struck me the most was Salinas’ frustration at the lack of support from the Biden Administration. Not a single call, not even a mere acknowledgement of the situation from the federal government. It appears that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris are content to sit back and watch states struggle with the mess they created. This level of neglect and abandonment is simply unacceptable. Where is the leadership? Where is the plan of action?
Furthermore, Salinas emphasized the importance of enforcing the laws that the United States was built on. He rightly points out that it is unfair to those who come to the country legally. Becoming an American citizen is a lengthy and costly process, requiring years of hard work and dedication. Yet here we have hundreds of thousands of illegal migrants reaping the benefits of being in the country illegally, all in one fell swoop. This is not only a slap in the face to law-abiding citizens but also undermines the very fabric of our nation.
The statistics highlight the severity of the situation. Customs and Border Patrol data shows that August witnessed a staggering 232,972 migrant encounters at the southern border, the highest recorded for that month. In response, Mayor Salinas declared a state of emergency when 2,500 people crossed into Eagle Pass, a town with a population of only 29,000, in just one day. The Del Rio border sector, which includes Eagle Pass, has recorded a total of 317,866 migrant encounters this year. These numbers speak volumes and cannot be ignored.
It’s an unfortunate reality that even within the Democratic Party, there are voices of discontent with Biden’s border policies. Mayor Salinas should be commended for speaking out against his own party’s failures. It is time for the Biden Administration to acknowledge the crisis, secure the border, and prioritize the safety and well-being of American citizens. Failure to do so would only further exacerbate the problems caused by their misguided policies.
