Democrats Deflated as Charges Against Trump Dismissed by Special Counsel

Special Counsel Jack Smith has quite the report card, and it’s safe to say it doesn’t reflect well on him. In a surprising twist, he has moved to dismiss the federal charges against President-elect Donald Trump, citing the Justice Department’s long-standing policy that prohibits prosecuting a sitting president. This development has sent shivers down the spines of Democrats who were counting on the legal system to take Trump out of the running before the 2024 election. It seems their plan to oust the Orange Man has fallen flat once again.

The dismissal, granted by Judge Tanya Chutkan, comes as a massive letdown to those on the left who had eagerly anticipated seeing Trump in handcuffs rather than on the campaign trail. Their hopes were dashed when it became apparent that the wheels of justice turned just a bit too slowly to alter the electoral landscape. Democrats, including notable figures like Rep. Adam Schiff, have vocalized their frustration, lamenting that the Justice Department failed to uphold the principle that no one is above the law. This whining merely underscores their desperation to enforce a narrative that was evidently too fragile to sustain under scrutiny.

Democrats and their allies have taken to social media and news outlets, casting blame over the deliberate pace of the DOJ’s prosecution process. Their collective outcry suggests that there was an almost evangelical expectation that the law would swoop in to save them from a Trump presidency. Figures such as former prosecutor Ankush Khardori have lamented the apparent inability of the judicial system to swiftly dispatch Trump, as if speed should take precedence over due process. This insistence on a quick conviction reveals more about their bias than it does about the necessity of justice.

However, there lurks a deeper fear beneath the surface of their complaints. The majority of the legal maneuvering against Trump seems to have been orchestrated with the specific aim of influencing the outcome of the election. The truth is that the left has known all along that a rematch against Trump would not bode well for their political future, especially with the current Biden administration’s mishandling of the nation’s challenges. The vacillating nature of their arguments, ranging from claims of Trump as a “fascist” to outright calls for his disqualification, only demonstrates their inability to engage the American public meaningfully.

In the end, this legal saga has chastened those who sought to weaponize the government to silence their political opponents. Instead of rallying support through solid policy proposals or solid arguments, they opted for theatrics in the courtroom, which have ultimately fizzled out. The collapse of their legal strategy has left them gasping for relevance, and their once-loud proclamations about democracy under siege have faded into whimpers, revealing a lack of conviction in their own narrative—a narrative they had hoped would take Trump down for the count. What remains undeniable is the electoral resilience of Trump, who has once again shown that he cannot be easily dispatched by mere judicial theatrics.
