Looks like the Democrats are starting to realize what many Americans have been saying all along: President Joe Biden’s time at the helm should come to an end. After an abysmal debate performance that had everyone questioning his mental fitness, a growing chorus of Democrats is calling for Grandpa Joe to step out of the 2024 race. And it’s not just coming from the fringes of the internet; prominent voices within his own party are leading the charge.
First up, we’ve got Rep. Lloyd Doggett. This Texas Democrat decided it was time for an intervention, becoming the first sitting member of Congress to suggest that Biden call it quits. While Doggett did his best to sugarcoat his statement by praising Biden’s “accomplishments,” he made it pretty clear that the president flunked the debate and needs to bow out. Doggett opined that unlike Trump, Biden’s first commitment has always been to the country. Well, way to go, Mr. Doggett; maybe Biden should show that commitment by stepping aside.
CNN Chief National Correspondent John King says prominent Democrats are talking about going to the White House to ask Biden to step down and/or publicly calling on him to drop out.

Then there’s former Rep. Tim Ryan, who threw his two cents in via an op-ed. Ryan, who seems to think he’s a generational visionary, labeled Biden’s debate performance as “deeply troubling.” In his mind, it’s clear that the Democratic Party needs fresh blood, hinting heavily that Kamala Harris should be the nominee instead. Honestly, imagining the president handing over the reins to someone with a resume as thin as Harris’s should give everyone pause.
Julian Castro, the guy who ran for president in 2020 and barely made a blip on the radar, chimed in to say that there are stronger options than Biden, even pointing to Kamala Harris. Castro, apparently not content with being a political has-been, went on MSNBC to make his case about Biden’s unsuitability for another round with Trump. Funny, considering that anyone deemed a “stronger option” is still trailing in the polls against the supposed tycoon from Queens.
Adam Frisch, a Colorado congressional candidate who almost dethroned Lauren Boebert, also jumped on the bandwagon. Frisch declared that neither Biden nor Trump should run for president. He believes it’s time for a new generation of leaders. While he’s at it, he should probably brush up on his history to understand why political experience actually matters.
Even Marianne Williamson, the spiritual guru who gave us a good laugh during the last Democratic primaries, thinks it’s lights out for Biden. In a video statement, she offered her gratitude to Biden for his service but insisted that the “time is now” for a change. Predictably, she also used the moment to announce her own candidacy, because why not?
Lastly, Andrew Yang, the guy who left the Democratic Party to become an independent, decided to hop on Twitter and sound off. He openly endorsed Rep. Dean Phillips against Biden and urged the Democrats to nominate someone else “before it’s too late.” Watching Yang’s tweetstorm about “#swapJoeout” can make anyone wonder if this technocrat’s cult following is worth the hype.
Folks, it’s quite a spectacle. The Democrats, who once hailed Biden as the savior to beat Trump, are now scrambling to find an escape hatch. As their own party members continue to pile on, it’s clear that the so-called Biden era is rapidly approaching its expiration date. Thank goodness, better late than never.
