In an astonishing turn of events that finds the Democrats morphing from delicate political flowers into unapologetic advocates for violence, the chairman of the Lenawee County Democratic Party, Bill Swift, reportedly endorsed lynching Trump supporters. Swift took to social media with a passionate proclamation about what he believes should happen to traitors of the Republic, revealing levels of aggression and vitriol that echo poorly back on his party.
Swift’s comments, which went viral before they were conveniently deleted, boldly claimed that anyone wanting to make Donald Trump a king is deserving of execution by hanging. This sentiment wasn’t just left behind in the digital ether; it made its way to local talk radio, where Swift leaned into his statements, ostensibly believing that calling for violence against 77 million Americans constituted a “rational argument.” It seems somewhere along the line the message got lost in translation—calling for the lynching of fellow Americans doesn’t quite fit the “peace and love” narrative.

As if that weren’t enough, Swift ventured into an even cloudier realm of conspiracy and misguided accusations, likening those in support of Trump’s presidency to Nazi collaborators. He accused a tech mogul of delivering Nazi salutes, making the bizarre link between the observation of certain political actions and historical atrocities. It appears Swift is trying to recast himself as some sort of modern-day prophet, warning everyone of an impending “Nazi takeover,” garnished with a sprinkling of fact-free accusations.
Despite the storm brewing around him, Swift remains defiant. He insists that his fiery rhetoric stems from what he perceives as a threat to democracy, claiming he’s merely reacting to the actions of those he considers his political enemies. This begs the question of whether he understands the very foundations of democratic discourse, or if he’s simply wrapped himself too tightly in a narrative of fear and paranoia, dishing out threats instead of rational or respectful debate.
Historically, when right-wing figures have engaged in similar rhetoric, they faced swift condemnation from the left alongside calls for accountability. Swift, however, faces almost no backlash. It seems that, according to the Democrats’ own yardstick, inciting violence against one side of the political aisle continues to receive a free pass. This inconsistency exposes a glaring hypocrisy within party lines, suggesting that for all their claims of holding the moral high ground, they are building hills of dirt cloaked in outrage, while conveniently ignoring the calls for violence spewing from their ranks.
Swift’s escapades serve as a sobering reminder of how far the Democratic Party’s rhetoric has strayed from civility. As Democrats continue to portray themselves as the champions of peace and unity while their officials entertain thoughts of mob justice, it’s no wonder that the party’s message is losing its appeal among average Americans.
