Fox News's coverage of the second Republican presidential primary debate was a total catastrophe. The moderators were absolutely awful. Nikki Haley and Tim Scott's mutual support throughout the evening was as dull as witnessing paint dry. Even worse was the decision to include Ilia Calderón, a left-wing Univision infiltrator, as a moderator. Her queries were completely absurd. It felt like she was trying out for an MSNBC primetime program. She spent the majority of her time praising the Mexican government and attempting to portray Republicans as bigots because they wished to resolve the border crisis. It is ludicrous.

Fortunately, Governor Ron DeSantis was well-prepared. When Calderón asserted that Florida's black history curriculum promotes slavery as a positive benefit for the enslaved, he completely demolished her argument. As reported by RedState, this assertion is flat-out false. This line was intended to demonstrate the perseverance of African-Americans, not to justify slavery. DeSantis drew attention to the fabrication and Kamala Harris' role in perpetuating

it. In addition, he mentioned that the passage was written by respected black history scholars who are descendants of slaves. However, DeSantis did not stop there. He then discussed Florida's educational accomplishments, such as being ranked first in the nation by US News & World Report and implementing universal school choice and the Parents' Bill of Rights. Even Critical Race Theory was eliminated from Florida's institutions. DeSantis demonstrated not only that he is well-informed and articulate, but also that he is an ardent advocate for parents and students.
Regarding Tim Scott, I have no clue why he collaborated with Calderón's absurd framing. It did not assist his position in the debate at all. Fortunately, DeSantis was able to precisely reverse the situation. He debunked the hoax and the bigotry allegations, and he highlighted Florida's educational success. I cannot fathom why Fox News believed it would be a good idea to include Calderón as a moderator, as her performance was simply laughable. The other moderators were not significantly improved. It is disheartening to witness such biased and unprofessional moderating in a primary debate.
