In a fiery exchange during the GOP presidential primary debate, Nikki Haley tried to slam Ron DeSantis for supposedly being against energy independence. But let’s get one thing straight: DeSantis is no enemy of the energy industry.
Haley accused DeSantis of banning fracking and offshore oil drilling in Florida, but she conveniently left out a few important details. What she failed to mention is that Florida voters themselves overwhelmingly approved a constitutional amendment that banned offshore drilling. It’s not a decision that DeSantis made on his own. He was simply obeying the will of the people.
DeSantis, on the other hand, has taken a strong stance against fracking. He knows that protecting our environment is crucial, and he has made it a priority to push for legislation that bans fracking in Florida. While he fully supports the energy industry in other states, he understands that Florida’s unique coastlines and tourism-centered economy require extra protection.

It’s important to note that despite DeSantis’s efforts, proposed legislation to ban fracking in Florida has not passed the state legislature. But that doesn’t mean he hasn’t been fighting for it. He’s been vocal about his opposition to fracking and has taken action to prevent any new permits from authorizing the practice in Florida.
So when Haley tried to paint DeSantis as an enemy of energy independence, she was just playing politics. DeSantis has been a strong advocate for American energy independence, but he also believes in protecting Florida’s natural resources and coastline. It’s a delicate balance, but one that he has managed with intelligence and conviction.
It’s time to set the record straight. DeSantis may have faced some false attacks from Haley, but his commitment to energy independence and environmental preservation remains steadfast. It’s time to stop the misinformation and give credit where credit is due. Ron DeSantis is a true leader who understands the importance of both our economy and our environment.
