Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida has proposed what he claims to be the toughest sanctions on Iran that any state has ever implemented. This move comes in response to the recent terrorist attack on Israel. DeSantis wants to expand the existing ban on Florida’s investment in Iranian businesses to include all major sectors, such as finance, construction, manufacturing, textiles, mining, and ports. He also plans to prevent state and local governments from contracting with any company in these sectors. These sanctions will only be lifted once both the president and Congress confirm that Iran has stopped supporting terrorism and pursuing weapons of mass destruction.
DeSantis criticized President Joe Biden’s response to the attack on Israel, saying that it was weak and inadequate. He pointed out that the State Department initially posted a tweet suggesting that there should be no response to the attack, which was later deleted. He also criticized Secretary of State Antony Blinken for calling for a ceasefire instead of taking a stronger stance against the perpetrators of terrorism. DeSantis argued that if terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah laid down their arms, there would be peace, but if Israel did the same, it would lead to the destruction of the Jewish state.
The governor expressed disappointment in the Biden administration for not providing unwavering support to Israel. He called for strong leadership and unity in the fight against terrorism, and criticized policies that benefit the Iranian regime. DeSantis believes that now is the time for the president to take a stand and emphasize the importance of standing up against terrorism.
