DNC Opts for Virtual Roll Call to Secure Biden Nomination Ahead of Ohio Deadline

The Democratic National Committee plans to use a virtual roll call to officially nominate President Biden as their candidate before the party’s August convention. This is so that he can be listed on the Ohio ballot. According to the committee, Ohio law requires the certification of presidential nominees by their respective political parties 90 days before the election, which means the nominees need to be certified by Aug. 7 to be on the state’s ballot. The Democratic National Convention, where nominees are typically certified, starts on Aug. 19.

Although Ohio Senate Republicans attempted to address the deadline issue by adding and passing a fix to a bill, the state House did not take up the bill before adjourning. This led to a special session being convened to resolve the matter. Governor Mike DeWine, a Republican, expressed his frustration with the situation and emphasized the urgency of getting President Biden on the ballot.

The DNC’s decision to proceed with a virtual roll call comes after the failure of Ohio lawmakers to act on the issue. Jaime Harrison, a spokesperson for the DNC, stated the importance of ensuring that Ohioans can exercise their right to vote for the presidential candidate of their choice without facing any obstacles. The committee aims to prevent any attempts to undermine the democratic process through incompetence or partisan tactics.

The virtual roll call is intended to address concerns and ensure that President Biden is on the ballot in Ohio and all 50 states. It reflects the Democratic Party’s determination to take necessary steps to safeguard the integrity of the election process.
