DOJ Targets Menendez in Bid to Dispel Bias Claims Amid Trump Pursuits

Senator Bob Menendez's (D-NJ) prosecution is the Department of Justice’s latest attempt to appear “non-partisan,” according to the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York. Damian Williams, a Biden appointee, insists the decision to go after Menendez will alleviate Republican concerns over the DOJ’s clear bias.

Williams, ever the PR strategist, paraded his talking points to Politico, aiming to quell the cynicism rampant among Republicans who rightly see the DOJ’s actions as a double standard, especially given the relentless pursuit of former President Donald Trump. Williams would have the public believe that the DOJ’s actions transcend political allegiance, though many are rightfully skeptical.

The U.S. Attorney presented himself at Federal Plaza like the white knight of justice, claiming that party lines don’t matter regarding corruption. He sang the same tune about how the law must be upheld regarding Menendez’s clear corruption case, pleading that it’s all about the crime, not the politics.

Menendez was slapped with 16 federal counts, including extortion, bribery, and acting as a foreign agent for Egypt, yet he remains defiant, refusing to resign amidst calls from his party. Despite Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and other Democrats demanding his exit, Menendez exemplifies shameless loyalty to his tarnished position.

He proclaimed disappointment in the jury’s decision, asserting his innocence and patriotic virtue—a laughable claim considering the mountain of evidence. While some point to this case as evidence of the DOJ’s fair play, the timing and motivation behind targeting a Democrat now, amid the ongoing political prosecution of Trump, suggests otherwise. If anything, it’s a smokescreen that fails to mask the long-standing biases within the halls of justice.
