In a shocking twist, it has been discovered that 154 sheets of paper believed to be laced with narcotics were smuggled into a Harris County jail by a visitor, Ronald Lewis, between July and November of 2023. The liberal media may try to spin this as an isolated incident, but the truth is clear: lax jail security and the soft-on-crime policies of Sheriff Ed Gonzalez are to blame for the influx of dangerous drugs behind bars.

Sheriff Gonzalez, who has been under fire for a surge in jail deaths, hastily formed a task force in March to address the rampant crime and drug epidemic within the jail. It’s clear that his weak leadership and failure to implement proper security measures have only exacerbated the situation. The fact that 27 inmates died in 2022 and 19 have already died in 2023 is a testament to the utter incompetence of Gonzalez and his team.
To try and cover up his failings, Gonzalez has resorted to implementing token measures such as adding three drug-sniffing dogs and imposing stricter mail protocols. But these half-hearted attempts at addressing the crisis are simply too little, too late. It’s obvious that a complete overhaul of leadership and policy is urgently needed to combat the rampant drug problem within the jail.
As a slap on the wrist, Lewis posted a mere $7,500 bond after being caught smuggling drugs into the jail, and as part of his conditions, he is prohibited from visiting any inmates while his case is pending. But this lenient punishment does little to address the larger issue at hand – the flagrant disregard for the safety and well-being of both inmates and staff within the Harris County jail.
It’s time for a serious reckoning within the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. The people of Harris County deserve strong, decisive leadership that puts the safety of law-abiding citizens and incarcerated individuals first. It’s clear that Sheriff Gonzalez’s failed policies have only led to more chaos and danger behind bars, and the time for real change is long overdue.
