White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre faced a barrage of questions from an intrepid journalist during a press conference on Wednesday. The journalist, clearly fed up with the evasive tactics employed by the Biden administration, zeroed in on the escalating border crisis and the President’s immigration policies.

He pointed out that President Joe Biden had undid the reforms implemented by the Trump administration that restricted the ability of illegal immigrants to request asylum. In addition, he noted that Biden’s immigration bill had failed to gain any traction. The journalist asked a simple question – would the administration’s potential suspension of asylum processing during a spike in border crossings signify a major policy reversal?
Jean-Pierre, true to form, deflected and sidestepped the question. She refused to discuss the sources of the information and instead reiterated the need for bipartisan compromise. As if that wasn’t enough, she attempted to tout Biden’s comprehensive immigration reform plan as evidence that he was addressing the issue, conveniently failing to mention that it had been gathering dust for three years.
But the determined journalist persisted, pressing Jean-Pierre on Biden’s lack of action when it came to pushing the immigration bill with Congress. Despite her attempts to downplay the importance of the bill, the journalist pointed out that Biden seemed to prioritize foreign policy, fiscal cliffs, and budgets over dealing with the immigration crisis.
Jean-Pierre, clearly rattled, raised her voice and vehemently disagreed. She claimed that the administration had put forth policies to make the immigration system more humane, conveniently shifting the blame onto Congress for their lack of help. She also praised Biden’s numerous executive actions, which many conservative critics deem legally dubious, as evidence of his commitment to the issue.
This press conference was a prime example of the smoke and mirrors approach employed by the Biden administration when it comes to the border crisis. Instead of addressing the concerns and taking responsibility for their failed policies, they dodge and deflect with empty rhetoric. It’s clear that Biden’s approach to immigration is more concerned with virtue signaling and maintaining appearances rather than finding real solutions to the crisis at hand. The American people deserve better.
