The First Amendment, with its promise of freedom of speech, has come under attack once again, but this time not from a government entity, but from the insidious forces of political correctness and big tech censorship. The late comedian George Carlin would surely have a field day with this latest assault, as he often warned about the dangers of disguised intolerance masked as tolerance.
The American Left, always quick to jump on any opportunity to silence dissenting voices, is fervently pushing the narrative that the First Amendment is “spinning out of control.” Columbia Law professor Tim Wu even went as far as to pen an op-ed in The New York Times echoing these sentiments. However, it’s crucial to see through the smokescreen and recognize that the real issue at hand is the suppression of legal opinions and factual information online.
How low is the bar if this is the best Columbia Law professor Tim Wu can offer to deplorables: Oh, You Naughty First Amendment https://t.co/XM0TwyyN5j

The recent Supreme Court decision in the NetChoice cases, involving state laws in Florida and Texas restricting social media platforms’ content moderation, has further muddied the waters. While concerns about the constitutionality of these laws are valid, the court’s ruling affirming the First Amendment protection for social media platforms’ algorithmic decisions is a troubling development. The First Amendment should safeguard individuals’ right to express their opinions freely, not shield tech giants from accountability.
Wu’s proposal to diminish the power of the First Amendment in the digital age is dangerous, as it could pave the way for even greater collusion between Big Government and Big Tech, reminiscent of the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop story during the 2020 election. The courts must remain vigilant in upholding the true purpose of the First Amendment – to ensure that Congress does not impede our fundamental right to speak our minds.
As America celebrates its 248th birthday, it’s essential to remember the significance of the First Amendment, a cornerstone of our democracy. Despite the challenges it faces in the modern era, including the threat of censorship and political correctness, the wisdom of the Supreme Court must prevail to protect our cherished freedom of speech for generations to come.
