The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has come to its senses and put an end to the ridiculous rule that allowed people to change their driver’s license to reflect their so-called “gender identity.” Finally, someone in Florida recognizes that biology and genetics should determine what goes on an identification record, not someone’s feeble attempt at recreating themselves.
The previous rule actually allowed transgender individuals to switch their licenses if they were transitioning. Can you believe it? They were basically saying that a person’s internal feelings about their gender were more important than the objective reality of their biological sex. Thankfully, the department realized that this kind of nonsense was defeating the purpose of an identification record. I mean, seriously, what’s the point of having an ID if it doesn’t accurately reflect who you are?

In a memo, the department made it clear that they were not going to conflate sex with gender. They explained that the term “gender” in the law actually refers to a person’s biological sex, not some made-up sense of self. It’s about time someone set the record straight. Allowing individuals to change their licenses based on their own internal sense of gender role or identity would undermine the purpose of an ID and make it impossible for the state to enforce its laws.
Of course, the Democrats in Florida are throwing a temper tantrum over this decision. Nikki Fried, chair of the Florida Democratic Party, is claiming that Republicans are obsessed with trans people. Seriously, can these Democrats focus on something that actually matters? We have a raging property insurance crisis and skyrocketing rent, but they’re more concerned with their woke agenda.
The new policy simply states that the department will only issue a new driver’s license if the old one is lost or stolen, not if someone wants to transition. Seems like a reasonable approach to me. If you lose your license, it makes sense to get a new one. But why should the department bend over backwards to accommodate someone’s desire to change their gender?
It’s worth noting that this updated policy aligns with legislation being considered in the Florida Senate and House of Representatives. The legislation aims to make this policy into law and also includes new requirements for health insurance coverage related to sex-reassignment prescriptions and procedures. It’s about time we prioritize real healthcare needs instead of indulging in these purely cosmetic procedures.
Kudos to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles for taking a step in the right direction. It’s refreshing to see some common sense prevail in the Sunshine State. Let’s hope more lawmakers follow suit and put an end to these ridiculous attempts to erase biological reality in the name of political correctness.
