Fox News followers were shocked on Wednesday morning when it was revealed on Twitter that Geraldo Rivera, a longtime co-host of “The Five,” would be leaving the network. Hallelujah! The majority of the network’s conservative base will not miss Rivera with his left-leaning views, which he has been spewing for years. He has always been the “odd man out” on the network’s top-performing show relative to other networks. It is about time that he takes his act elsewhere.
Rivera took to Twitter to make the announcement saying that his final appearances on the show will be at the end of June. “It’s been a great run, and I appreciate having had the opportunity,” he wrote. “Being the odd man out isn’t always easy.” Rivera was known for operating more favorably with Democrats than Republicans throughout his tenure at Fox. His departure is therefore not surprising, especially since the network is currently struggling to maintain its leading position in the ratings.
Morning, it’s official, I’m off @TheFive. My last scheduled show appearances are Thursday and Friday June 29th and 30th. It’s been a great run and I appreciate having had the opportunity. Being odd man out isn’t always easy. For the time being, I’m still Correspondent at Large.

The news comes after Rivera posted a cryptic tweet suggesting his time at Fox may have been over back in early May. “My appearances today and tomorrow on The Five have been canceled,” he tweeted. “I’m sure there’s a good reason. Never fear, I’ll be back week after next. Stay safe and happy. Thanks.” Well, it turns out that now he won’t be back.
His exit comes as a significant win for the majority of Fox viewers who believe that the network has become too liberal under CEO James and his son Lachlan Murdoch, who took control of the news operations of parent company 21st Century Fox. Of course, this move also follows the channel’s plummeting ratings in recent months. Fox has been struggling to maintain its dominance over the rest of the cable media for years, and the latest Nielsen data proves it.
In the competitive world of cable news, MSNBC has managed to dethrone Fox from the top position they have held for over two years. For the first time in over two years, the left-leaning network surpassed Fox News in weekly primetime viewership. The Nielsen data shows that Fox’s primetime viewership averaged 1,504,429, while MSNBC’s viewership over the same frame averaged 1,520,857. MSNBC’s victories are no doubt fueled by their coverage of the Trump–Russia farce and other prominent investigations engaging the Trump White House.
The current leadership at Fox News will have to take note that the conservative base expects unbiased political discourse in this competitive market to maintain ratings and that bowing to liberal opinions will result in disappointment and disapproval from its viewership.
