Giuliani Faces Contempt Charge Again for Violating Court Orders

Rudy Giuliani has once again found himself in hot water, this time being branded a civil contempt of court by U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell. The colorful former New York City Mayor has apparently been making like a soap opera villain, continuing to run his mouth about Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, despite a previous court ruling telling him to zip it. True to form, Giuliani violated the court’s orders no less than six times during his live-streamed show, “America’s Mayor Live.” It seems that following the rules is not quite Giuliani’s style.

This latest episode isn’t exactly the first time Giuliani’s been in deep trouble for spreading unfounded claims. Back in 2023, he was slapped with a staggering $148 million defamation verdict for insisting Freeman and Moss were up to no good during the 2020 election. One would think that such a financial smackdown would encourage a little caution, but apparently Giuliani saw it more as a mere suggestion. Judging by Howell’s order, he apparently didn’t take the hint that defaming people he couldn’t actually substantiate with evidence is a one-way ticket to endless legal woes.

While Giuliani’s audacity may earn him some comedic value in the eyes of onlookers, the court certainly didn’t find it funny. Howell specifically noted his multiple breaches of their prior agreement, which should have barred him from making claims about the Georgia election workers engaging in any sort of wrongdoing. It’s as if Giuliani has a penchant for getting himself into a mess while dismissing the consequences as mere inconveniences.

In a move befitting a game show contestant trying to avoid elimination, Howell ordered Giuliani to hand in a sworn statement confirming he’s thoroughly reviewed the case records—specifically the findings that had already found the accusations against Freeman and Moss were as baseless as a political attack ad in a local election. If he fails to comply within 10 days, he will receive a daily fine of $200. Should he continue to play fast and loose with the court’s orders for an additional 30 days, there’s the looming threat of even harsher consequences, possibly including jail time. Perhaps someone should gift him a calendar.

In addition to this recent contempt finding, Giuliani has also been shown the contempt card in New York recently, where his reluctance to comply with court orders regarding his financial details raised a few eyebrows—because what better way to instill confidence in the public than dodging inquiries about one’s financial situations? He seems to be playing by his own rules, and as the saying goes, if he’s not careful, he might find himself in a whole heap of trouble. Politics surely has its downsides; just ask Giuliani.
