Today, in a bold move that’ll make liberals squirm, Republican U.S. Reps. Chip Roy of Texas and Dan Bishop of North Carolina introduced the Standing Up to the Executive Branch for Immigration Enforcement Act, also known as the “SUE for Immigration Enforcement Act.” This bill gives the state attorneys general the power to stick it to the federal government when it neglects to enforce immigration laws established by Congress. You read that right – these Republicans are Fed Up and they’re not afraid to show it!
The bill is a concise six pages and is currently being marked up by the House Judiciary Committee. It comes as a direct response to a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that basically told Texas and Louisiana they couldn’t do anything about a policy enforced by the Department of Homeland Security that stopped most deportations of illegal foreign nationals. What a bunch of malarkey! But fear not, because Roy and Bishop’s bill would give state attorneys general the authority to sue the secretary of Homeland Security whenever the federal government turns a blind eye to enforcing federal immigration law. This is a game changer, folks.

The bill also includes language that defines harm as financial costs exceeding $100. Yeah, you read that correctly. If the federal policies cost more than a Benjamin, then the state attorneys general can take ’em to court. Take that, Biden administration! The bill also directs the courts to speed up the process of handling these cases, so there’s no more dilly-dallying around.
And get this – the bill is the total opposite of a Senate Democrat bill pushed by Sen. James Lankford, R-Okla., which would’ve taken away states’ ability to sue. Can you believe it? Thankfully, Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, R-La., said the House wouldn’t even think twice about considering that bill. Phew, crisis averted!
But wait, there’s more! Republican Reps. Andy Ogles of Tennessee, Tom Tiffany of Wisconsin, Harriet Hageman of Wyoming, and Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma have all signed on as cosponsors. These Republicans are standing strong and making moves to defend our sovereignty. And who can forget U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, R-Fla., who has filed a similar bill not once, but twice? Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody even rallied 26 state attorneys general to support the cause. They’re not playing games, folks. They’re serious about taking on the Biden administration’s disastrous open borders policy.
This bill couldn’t come at a better time, especially with the soaring numbers of illegal border crossers under Mayorkas’ watch. The first quarter of fiscal year 2024 saw the highest apprehensions at both the southwest and northern borders in U.S. history. It’s time to take a stand and put an end to this madness. These Republicans aren’t backing down, and neither should you!
