GOP House Takes Aim at Biden Policies with New Freedom Bills and Voter Security Measures

In a fresh round of “doing what they should have done ages ago,” the GOP-led House Rules Committee is rolling out a bunch of bills next week aimed at countering the Biden administration’s relentless nonsense. Among the headliners are measures to boost appliance freedom and fortify election integrity—two issues that Democrats seem to think are just Republicans being fussy, but to everyday Americans, they’re a breath of fresh air.

First on the docket are two bills pulled straight from the halls of common sense: the Refrigerator Freedom Act and the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act. These were initially postponed in April thanks to Iran throwing its tantrum in Israel’s direction. Now that the dust has settled a bit, it’s finally time to tackle the absurd overreach in home appliance regulations. The Refrigerator Freedom Act aims to free refrigerators and freezers from cost-prohibitive and technologically flawed energy standards. Who would have thought it takes a room full of politicians to keep your fridge from becoming an overpriced, underperforming paperweight?

Next, there’s the Stop Unaffordable Dishwasher Standards Act, which essentially tells Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm that she can take her needless energy standards and stick them where the sunlight doesn’t reach unless, of course, she can prove they won’t cost consumers an arm and a leg. Because who wouldn’t love to come home to dishes that have been washed three times and are still dirty?

Meanwhile, the Republicans are making another commendable push with the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act to keep non-citizens from voting in federal elections. While Democrats are quick to argue that it’s already illegal, the GOP is simply saying, “Hey, let’s just double-check, shall we?” Given the flood of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border, courtesy of policies from an administration whose name rhymes with “Schmiden,” it’s not unreasonable to think a few extra precautions might be in order. After all, it only takes a handful of votes in key districts to wreak havoc on a national election.

Not stopping there, the House GOP is also aiming their sights on Biden’s new Title IX rules, which could potentially force schools to turn a blind eye to biological differences in sports. H.J. Res. 165 seeks to slap down the Biden administration’s new gender identity definitions that inconveniently overlook the fact that biology is, well, not a social construct. Republicans argue it’s pretty simple—keep boys in boys’ sports, and girls in girls’ sports—lest we want to dismantle decades of advancements in women’s sports.

Also on the House’s agenda is the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act, which would apportion funds for member salaries and expenses, including a salary for Beatrice Payne, widow of the late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. As if on cue, Congress will also eye an override on Biden’s veto concerning an SEC rule, marking his 12th veto—a number that’s becoming as high as gas prices under his watch.

All in all, it looks like it’s going to be another week in the House where common sense takes the stage, albeit briefly, before inevitably being met by partisan bickering that would make kindergarteners blush. Nonetheless, these bills couldn’t come at a better time for Americans in desperate need of government taking its proverbial boot off their necks.
