In the recent conflict with Hamas, President Biden expressed unwavering support for Israel. He expressed confidence in Israel's commitment to adhering to the rules of war and minimizing harm to innocent civilians, highlighting that democratic countries like Israel uphold higher standards, ensuring access to necessities for Palestinians in Gaza.
Regarding the issue of Israel's occupation of Gaza, President Biden clarified that while Israel formally withdrew from the territory in 2005, the belief that Israel controls the lives of Palestinians remains prevalent among Palestinian nationalists. He called for a clear distinction between Hamas and innocent Palestinians manipulated and used as human shields by the terrorist group.
President Biden described Hamas as a group engaged in barbarism, making a comparison to the Holocaust, and emphasized Israel's moral obligation to respond. He strongly denounced Hamas, characterizing them as cowards who hide behind innocent civilians while perpetuating acts of terror. Additionally, he urged other forces, such as Iran-backed Hezbollah, to refrain from further escalating the conflict and advocated for peace and stability.
