Republicans are taking aim at Democrats who have long downplayed concerns about President Joe Biden’s mental sharpness, and it’s high time someone did. Both the National Republican Campaign Committee and GOP senators are calling out House Democrats for their unwavering support of Biden, a move they believe will help them gain crucial seats this fall.
The NRCC’s latest memo doesn’t pull any punches. It goes straight for the jugular by accusing House Democrats of being more loyal to their party than to the American people. The hilarious irony of it all is that these Democrats had the audacity to cheer on Biden, even after his cringe-worthy performance at the first presidential debate where he left many questioning his fitness for office.

The Republicans are not shy about naming names. Representatives like Mary Peltola, Hillary Scholten, Jahana Hayes, Vicente Gonzalez, Susan Wild, Steven Horsford, Pat Ryan, and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez are all under fire. The GOP is exposing their past comments that are now biting them in the rear, revealing their so-called “gaslighting and misdirection.”
Worried about their reelection prospects, these Democrats are doing everything to distance themselves from Biden’s mental fitness issues. This scramble follows Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report that, while not charging Biden over mishandling classified docs, did raise questions about his ability to tie his own shoes, let alone run a country. But the more vulnerable they get, the louder their leadership shouts, filling Sunday talk shows with even more empty rhetoric.
Even some Democratic operatives, too scared to put their names on record, admit the Republican strategy is hitting where it hurts. They know their candidates, already wading through Biden’s gaffes, will have a hard time staying afloat. This reality has the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee desperately downplaying the Republicans’ tactics. They tout their candidates’ strengths, as if clutching at straws can keep them from sinking.
Meanwhile, Senate Republicans are joining the fun, deploying the same playbook. David McCormick, aiming to oust Senator Bob Casey in Pennsylvania, released an ad that juxtaposes Casey’s blind faith in Biden with clips from debates showing a man who occasionally forgets what planet he’s on. And it doesn’t stop there. The Republican State Leadership Committee and the National Republican Senatorial Committee have hammered out statements and videos, intertwining shots of Biden tripping over his own tongue with Democratic candidates pledging fealty to him.
The Democrats can downplay all they want, but come November, voters will remember who stood by a leader barely able to complete a coherent sentence.
