Radical leftist Cornel West, the Green Party’s 2024 presidential candidate, has made a shocking statement: he agrees that the Democrat Party is “beyond redemption.” However, before we jump for joy at his newfound wisdom, it’s important to clarify that West’s reasons for condemning the Democrats are completely misguided. According to West, the party has failed to meet the needs of the poor and working people. But let’s get real here. The Democrats have made empty promises to the poor for six decades, intentionally keeping them dependent on government handouts. Because if these people were to achieve economic success and independence, why on Earth would they continue to vote for a party that thrives on big government and wealth redistribution? Spoiler alert: they wouldn’t.

Now, let’s talk about West’s take on his beloved socialist buddy, Sen. Bernie Sanders. West acknowledges that Sanders is consistent in his endorsement of Joe Biden’s reelection campaign but dismisses it as an unpersuasive argument. According to West, Sanders is signaling that there’s no hope of breaking the corporate duopoly in politics and addressing the needs of the poor and working class. But here’s the inconvenient truth West seems to miss: the Democratic Party is deeply entangled with corporate America, constantly scratching each other’s backs. They have no intention of seriously addressing the needs of the poor and working class. Instead, they use figures like Sanders and AOC as mere window dressing or as election pawns every four years.
While West’s belief in a cradle-to-grave government might be nonsensical, I must admit, his honesty about the Democrats’ lack of genuine concern for the poor is somewhat refreshing. It’s rare to hear a leftist acknowledge the true nature of their party. And let’s not forget that West’s criticism of the Democrats came in response to Sanders endorsing Joe Biden for reelection. It seems even Sanders, the self-proclaimed champion of the working class, is willing to jump on board with a party that has no interest in truly helping the people. So, Bernie, instead of talking about “beating back right-wing extremism,” how about partnering with West in 2024 to beat back the extremism within your own party? Just a thought.
