Former United Nations Ambassador and presidential candidate Nikki Haley has amended her initial statement on the latest indictment of former President Donald Trump. Haley originally called it “prosecutorial overreach” and “vendetta politics” but has changed her tune, stating that Trump’s behavior is “incredibly reckless.” The former President was charged on Friday with 37 counts of mishandling classified documents after an investigation by the FBI into his removal of classified documents from the White House and their storage at Mar-A-Lago prior to an FBI raid there.
Haley specifically criticized Trump’s sharing of classified information with people who did not have the necessary security clearances, including discussions of U.S. defense policies. As a military spouse, Haley expressed concern that Trump’s recklessness put all of the country’s military men and women in danger. She also expressed doubt about Trump’s ability to lead the country amid several indictments, citing the need for a candidate who can win a general election and “right the ship on this country.”
While Haley agreed that the DOJ and FBI have lost credibility with the American people, she believes that getting rid of just senior management is not enough to fix the issues and that a complete overhaul is needed. She further echoed the sentiment that Trump’s indictment distracted the public from the corruption of President Joe Biden and that the charges do not rise to the level of seriousness to interfere in an election. Haley suggested that the left is merely grasping at straws to remove Trump from contention to be president again.
